How to get creative making delicious fun-shaped churros

We all love doughy sugary tasty fried treats in Texas. But this year, with COVID-19 on the block and the state fair not offering delicious fried goods, we've got a simple and delicious recipe to create churros at home. We do our best to extract the most fun out of this process to make it a blast!

Pro tips:

  • Pull the water from the burner as soon as it boils. You will lose precious water and the recipe will be altered if you let it boil.
  • the churro expands in the oil
  • thin churros are for our crunchy lovers
  • thicker churros are for our fluffy dough-filled lovers

Recipe:

  • flour 1 L
  • salt 1 tablespoon
  • hot water 1 L

Steps

Creating the dough

  1. add water to the pot, turn stove to medium heat
  2. mix flour, salt and powdered milk in a separate bowl
  3. as soon as the water boils, pull and mix well with dry ingredients

In a large pan - add 2 to 3 inches of frying oil - heat to 350 F

Form the churro by adding the dough to a decoration funnel and pumping out, this is where you get to be creative. Form the churros in the shape you wish. We will go over 3 or 4 of our favorite variations.

Now you can add them to the oil, about 5 to 6 minutes is recommended but here you will have to really put on your chef hat and pull them when they are crispy and brown.
